Record interviews on your Android phone
Phone interviews are easy to record and annoying to sort out afterwards. Flowphonic helps with the second part, which is where the hours go.
Record in Lossless, turn on the live transcript, and say "circle this" when your guest nails an answer. You'll find it again in seconds.
Set up before they sit down
Switch to Lossless so you get a WAV. Mono is usually right for one person talking. Do a ten-second test, look at the meters, and adjust gain until your guest's normal voice sits comfortably below the red.
If you're recording a long conversation, Flowphonic keeps recording when the screen dims or the app is in the background. There's a notification so you know it's running. More on that in background recording.
Let the transcript do the note-taking
With the live transcript running, you see the words appear as the guest speaks. Afterwards you can search the whole transcript for a name or a phrase and jump to that spot. If the phone misheard something, tap the line and fix it by hand.
Mark the good bits out loud
This is the part people like. While you record, say "circle this" or "good take" and a KEEP marker drops at the start of that line. Say "cut" to flag something to lose. You don't touch the screen, so you don't break eye contact.
Voice markers need the live transcript running, and they listen for English.
Afterwards
Trim what you need with the jog wheel, then share the audio. If you're editing in a video app, you can also send your markers over: Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut.
Quick answers
Can Flowphonic transcribe an interview live?
Yes. Live transcription runs while you record. On Android 13 or newer with a language model installed it runs on your phone. Otherwise it can use your phone's online speech service.
Can I fix transcript mistakes?
Yes. Tap a transcript line and edit it by hand.
